Parkour – the physical discipline of training to overcome any obstacle within one’s path by adapting one’s movements to the environment.

I recently had the opportunity to do a little action photography with Kris in downtown Edmonton.  Kris braved the cold as it was about -3 outside and he was required to grab and hold on to some pretty cold concrete and metal. I love the challenge of location photography and it was even more challenging with a moving target! I had so much fun shooting these sequences and Kris was awesome to work with. He performed repeatedly so that we could capture some amazing photos.  I was cool to watch how gracefully Kris could navigate and make everything appear effortless. I can’t wait to do it again. Kris on the other hand might prefer to vernture out on a warmer day next time but like I said he was a true sport.

I was reading Scott Kelby’s blog, one of the blogs I follow regularly, and Sandy Puc happened to be a guest blogger there this week.  For those of you who do not know who Sandy is you should check out her guest blog on Scotts site, It’s Guest Blog Wednesday featuring Sandy Puc’! and also her website: sandypuc.com. The post closed with this video that I am embedding here because I felt a deep connection with the message of this video and it moved me.  This video captured what I have been struggling to say or explain as one of the reasons I love photography and why I take so many pictures.  For that I would like to thank Scott for having Sandy post on his blog and thank Sandy for sharing this video.

I hope you take the time to watch this and if it moves you or resonates within you please let me know by leaving a comment, I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

My Aunt will be participating in the Weekend to End Women’s Cancers event in Edmonton this August. Formerly called the Weekend to End Breast Cancer, this event is a two-day, 60-kilometre or one-day 30 kilometre walk through the neighbourhoods of Edmonton.

If you would like to Donate to this event on behalf of my Aunt please visit her profile on the Weekends site at Darlene Popik. Here is an excerpt of why she participates in such a great cause.

“This will be my 5th year with the Weekend to End Breast Cancer and 4th year walking. I continue to be a part of this weekend because of the inspiration I get from my friend Andrea. She is the one that should be admired and congratulated for being such a fighter. Andrea has continued to inspire me to be a better person and walking the 60 km is the very least I feel I can contribute to this cause. I am lucky because Andrea is a fighter and continues to register for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer each year along with me. My journey is easy compared to Andrea’s, so as long as she continues to fight her battle, I will continue to walk.

Andrea keep being our Miracle Girl!

U go girl!!!!!”

Do you remember your first haircut? I don’t but I do remember getting my hair cut as a child. I hated it, it was scary and the electric trimmer always tickeled my neck. Now as a grown up it seems like it would be way more fun for a first time haircut. After all they have really cool places specifically for kids like Beaners.

Last Monday we took Brandon for his first haircut! His older brother Owen had his first haircut at Beaners too but it was at a different location since the one we went to on Monday was not opened back then (2008). The really cool part is that Zafreen, who cut Owens hair the first time, now works at the new location in Edmonton and she also cut Brandons hair for his first time. When I think about it now it is doubly cool as not only have they had their first haircuts by the same person but they were also born in the exact same room at the hospital, of course it was 1 year and 4 months apart!

At first Brandon did not think much of it, he took a seat on the horse while Owen watched cartoons behind him. As soon as the clippers came out he changed his mind and needed some cuddles with mom.

After that there was no way he was going back on that horse by himself, he needed to sit on moms lap. Of course Owen had to check in on his little brother to make sure he was ok.

Of course he survived his first trip to the stylist and the only harm to occur was to his little curls! What a cutie.
