I finished up a fun little family session not too long ago. It was a father, daughter and grandmother. The daughter got right into things quickly. She was dancing and twirling and was having a great time. I like having people do something fun or silly right off the bat. It is a great way to break the ice and get everyone relaxed. After that we settled in to some fun shots of dad and daughter, just toying with each other and having fun. These two were taken seconds apart and I love the contrast between the playfulness and affection they shared for each other.

Here she is showing the camera a little attitude but still keeping it light.

I had an idea for a fun little game that I thought would also make for a great photograph. I spread out some black fabric on the ground and had dad, daughter, and grandma all take their socks off and sit down. I then got a soccer ball for them to kick back and forth and play with just their feet. It was a blast and there was lots of laughs to be had and it also resulted in what I think is a great photo! From there I wanted to get a close up shot of the 3 generations of hands for them.

To wrap things up I went a little more edgy. We popped some popcorn, donned some 3D glasses, cuddled up on the settee and watched a “movie”

Newborns are great subjects for photography. Take Andrew for example, he took direction fabulously and really worked the camera, he was amazing! Just look at him all snuggled in dad’s hand.

I thought it would be neat to have all the guys put their feet together in the same photo so we could capture the scale of them at this moment in time. I think it is too precious how tiny Andrews feet are when compared to his brothers never mind his dad. They grow up so fast!

I think mom must be extra proud that her boys were very patient with each other and actually enjoyed sitting together. How often does that happen with three boys?

I really love this series of images here. I love the tender grip of moms hand and the delicate size of his foot in dads hand. I also love photographing B&W in a simple classic look that keeps the focus on the subject. That is a lot of love hey!

I photographed Tabitha and Pierre’s wedding earlier this spring. The ceremony was at the North Pointe Community Church with the reception at the gorgeous Chateau Louis Hotel in the St Michaels room. It was a great ceremony and the lighting on stage was amazing as the church is light in a theatric manner.  Think spotlights from above on the stage with theatre style tiered seating and the lights in the audience down low.  Everything was going nice and smooth according to plan and then right as they were about to kiss the camera I had ready to get the shot (Canon 5D MKII ) went “click” for the first frame and then just froze dead! Uh oh, what now?  Of course being prepared I had two cameras on me and was quickly able to switch and continue to shoot without missing a shot. I suppose if you are taking pictures long enough equipment failure is bound to happen, I would just prefer it to not happen at the pinnacle of action.

With the ceremony complete we headed off to the Neil Crawford Centre for the formals.  We shot in the atrium and around the outside of the building.

I love letting the couple have some “unscripted” time to just soak in the day while I capture some moments between the two of them. Tabitha and Pierre looked totally relaxed in front of the camera the whole day and it made for some great images.

Just outside the Neil Crawford Centre building was an old worksop with a weathered garage door that was full of character.  Mucho kudos to Tabitha for getting to it as she had to walk through some pretty sketchy terrain to get to the building, the ground was all rooted and lumpy.

I love this picture for two reasons. 1. the look that they are giving each other and 2. the fact that Pierre is carrying her shoes. I love the color against his dark suit!

A little quality time for a beautiful couple.

I think this is such a sweet moment between the two of them.  This is another fav of mine from their day!

Wow!  Can you stay gorgeously glamourous! I just love the old school hollywood vintage feel of this photo.

At the reception there were these really funky red lanterns for centerpieces along with a beautiful card that had the story of how they met on one side.

Dinner and dessert.  Need I say more? Ok, I just have to add that the desserts were amazing!  Who needs dinner when you have that much variety of sintastic sweets?

After dinner we snuck out onto the balcony for some fresh air, setting sun, and some uber romantic moments with the newlyweds.

Some first dance action.  A little intimacy, and a little laughter. As cliche as it may sound, I think Tabitha and Pierre truly enjoyed this most special day together.

A little later in the evening they each got to show off their best groove moves.  I like Pierre’s version of a kung fu robot over the rock n roll bride move Tabitha pulled out but it is just my opinion and of course I would lean more towards the masculine nature of a fighting robot.  How cool is that!  I would love to hear which one you prefer.  Please leave me a comment and cast your vote.

A toast, to Tabitha and Pierre! Thank you guys for trusting me with such a special day, and sharing your passion, laughter, and emotion with me. It was a wonderful day that I hope you both cherish forever.

My wife and I had a little just the two of us time away in July. Our first trip away from the boys since; well the boys about 3.5 years ago. How crazy eh. We decided to head to San Francisco for a weekend getaway as we had been there with Owen when he was 5 months old and did not feel like we got to really see or do much besides eat, sleep, poop, cry and teeth! It is such a beautiful city and one of the things that amazes me are the buildings and architechture, everything is so ornate.

We took the Cable Car down to Fishermans Wharf to check out all the ships, shops and food!

We toured the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park and were able to go aboard some historic ships. It was pretty cool to board these ships, considering we come from the prairies there is not a lot of opportunity to get up close with these types of vessels.

After spending some time on the Wharf we took a ferry to Alcatraz. One thing I found particularly interesting is how beautifully landscaped it was. There is such a stark contrast between the decaying foundations of the buildings and the lush greenery and bird sanctuaries.

After Alcatraz we headed out to the Golden Gate bridge. It was breathtaking, literally. I could not believe how windy it was on the bridge, you definitely had to hang on to your belongings otherwise you risked losing them over the edge and into the bay! Also when you are that high up over open water with wind as strong as it was I could not help but think… What if a really strong gust blew you over?

Angela and I off of the bridge doing the touristy thing. Note the sunburn on her chest! We had awesome weather the whole trip.

Make sure you check out Angelas blog for more pictures, and some spicy blow by blow details of our trip.
