Happy New Year!

I am finally getting back into the swing of things after a hectic holiday season. Lots of family and friends visiting, which is great and I am very thankful for. Of course it is nice to get back to “normal” though. Regularly scheduled programming if you will.
For Christmas this year Angela wanted to get the boys a nice shirt to wear on Christmas day. I was fine with their regular shirts but you know mothers…

I have to admit though that they boys looked super cute in them.

Owen even kept his tie on long enough to get just one frame off. It is not ideal but what do you expect from a 3 year old wearing a tie?

Yeah thats right a beaver tuque. Totally Canadian eh! This is what I expect a 3 year old to prefer to wear, mainly because of the pure sillyness of it. Of course I told him to quit being a hoser eh!

Stay tuned for my new years resolution!

Happy Holidays from Korsan Studios!

We wanted to send out actual Christmas Cards this year so we planned ahead to shoot them and then have lots of time to put everything together and get them printed. Who knew that it would take 2 days of shooting to get the amout of “co-operation” we needed from our kids! I created the design in Photoshop and we had them printed through Bay Photo.
The cards printed and shipped quickly but took a little longer than expected to arrive so we contacted the folks at Bay Photo Customer Service to see what was going on. Apparently the post office had accidently routed them to Germany, the country! Hmm that seemed a little off the beaten path since this was a completely North American transaction. The Customer Service Rep from Bay Photo let us know that they would reprint and ship them out immediately, all at no additional charge! Wow that is amazing especially since the shipping mishap is out of their control. I cannot say thank you enough to the folks at Bay Photo for their support. Another thing that is amazing is the quality of the cards, they are top notch!
and here are some photos of the actual card itself.

We wish you and your family the best for the holiday season and a safe and happy new year, Merry Christmas everyone!

For the dogs…

It’s been a hectic October and I am just starting to get caught up. I should have a wedding post soon as well as a couple other portrait sessions to share but for now I will leave you with some pet portraits. Dogs to be specific.
Back in August I was out walking Kosmo and decided to stop at my sisters place to check out the first apple on her new apple tree. While I was there the sun was setting and her dog Ripley was just hanging out begging me to take his picture. I love this one.

I did not take any pictures of Kosmo on that night as he was too busy playing with his favorite toy, a rubber ring, to sit still long enough for a portrait. So I figured I would get him in the studio for a portrait with his ring! Kosmo obsesses over this ring. He would litteraly run himself to death chasing this thing if you let him.

My walking partner

This is Kosmo. He is my amazing dog and walking partner. Kosmo was adopted from the Edmonton Humane Society 5 years ago when he was just 6 weeks old.

Our walks are not all about fire hydrants…

he lets me stop to smell the flowers too!

An added bonus of having nightly walks is some of the breathtaking sunsets we witness. This is facing away from the setting sun but it cast such a dramatic glow on the houses with a storm approaching overhead.

Taking a break with some very whispy clouds overhead. Kosmo is such an awesome dog, he lets me take as many pictures as I want and he sits so patiently waiting for the walk to resume. This is why he is featured on the blog many a time.

Get their attention with tethered shooting

Tethered shooting is when you have your camera connected to a computer so that the images appear on screen as they are captured. I was fooling around and Brandon decided he had to check out what I was doing with the computer, he loves to work. I shot the first frame while he was checking out another image and as soon as his image popped up on screen he was hooked. He figured it out pretty quickly and said “cool”. Too cute!

Happy, belated, Anniversary!

We did celebrate on our anniversary but I did not have a post up on the actual day. With 2 young kids it can get a little hectic. This year marks our 6th wedding anniversary, and we dated for 6 years before we got married. I guess this is the tipping point to where we have been married for more years than we dated.
The typical “gift” themes for 6 years are Iron (traditional) and Wood objects (modern) and the flower is the Calla. I thought the Calla was pretty cool as that was the flower Angela had in her wedding bouquet. I was covered for the flowers part courtesy of Wild Orchid in Edmonton.
I got 6 callas, one for each year. I hope that was not a mistake as what am I going to do for 20 years!

Next up was to make a “wood object”. I think paper should cover that! Check! A little sign to mark our occasion.

All we needed to do now was have ourselves a little photoshoot courtesy of Aunty Claudette! This is my fav of the two of us.

Our additions since we have been married. They keep us busy and we would not trade them for anything! They are so precious and they really look after each other, it is so cute.

Thanks again Aunty for coming and taking photos of us. You may be a rookie but with a little back end work everything turned out great!
Owen and Brandon have just finished up swimming lessons. This is Owen’s third and Brandon’s first session and they love it.

Brandon loves the slide!

Brandons First Haircut

Do you remember your first haircut? I don’t but I do remember getting my hair cut as a child. I hated it, it was scary and the electric trimmer always tickeled my neck. Now as a grown up it seems like it would be way more fun for a first time haircut. After all they have really cool places specifically for kids like Beaners.
Last Monday we took Brandon for his first haircut! His older brother Owen had his first haircut at Beaners too but it was at a different location since the one we went to on Monday was not opened back then (2008). The really cool part is that Zafreen, who cut Owens hair the first time, now works at the new location in Edmonton and she also cut Brandons hair for his first time. When I think about it now it is doubly cool as not only have they had their first haircuts by the same person but they were also born in the exact same room at the hospital, of course it was 1 year and 4 months apart!
At first Brandon did not think much of it, he took a seat on the horse while Owen watched cartoons behind him. As soon as the clippers came out he changed his mind and needed some cuddles with mom.

After that there was no way he was going back on that horse by himself, he needed to sit on moms lap. Of course Owen had to check in on his little brother to make sure he was ok.
Of course he survived his first trip to the stylist and the only harm to occur was to his little curls! What a cutie.
Wow, it has been a very busy last two weeks. My mom has been thinking about selling her house and downsizing for a while and finally decided to pull the trigger. She contacted Shane from Platinum Team: RE/MAX River City to list her house. I have to tell you if you are in the Edmonton area and looking for a realtor for buying or selling Shane is the guy you need to call. This is the second time we have had Shane sell a house for us. He is friendly, hard working, super attentive and truly amazing. Thank you Shane for helping with the sale!
I have a lot of things I want to post and catch up on so stay tuned over the next few days.

Winter Photography

Being a photographer in Edmonton has its challenges in the winter. For one thing it is very cold so being outside photographing can be challenging. Also with lots of overcast days, snow, ice and sand (to help cars from sliding around) it can often be hard to find much color.
I think these couple photos captured some color on a particularly mild winter day.

Of course about a half hour later and things were much colder with an overcast sky not allowing much color to pop. When things turn drab what better thing to do than black and white!

At least the days are starting to get longer again and there is more sun and mild weather lately. Perfect for taking the kids tobogganing!
