The weather has been pretty hot the last few days and the boys wanted to have an ice cream cone because “it is sooo hot outside”. Owen is getting pretty skilled at eating an ice cream cone but Brandon is still working on his mastery of cone consumption.

I asked Owen how come he had ice cream on his tongue.

He mater of factly told me it was “because i’m lickin it!”

Brandon is managing to eat ice cream cones on his own now which is terrific.

But with technique like this… It is no wonder he ends up with a chocolate goatee.

At least it was neat and tidy and somewhat even.

I was in the mood for something a little more film noir like. Shot this with camera in hand and had Angela hold the flash behind the kids toy work bench which has holes for all the tools to hang in. That is where the hot sopts are coming from, the light passing through the holes. But it looks like I could be peeking out the window of a motel into the parking lot waiting and watching while someone is pulling in.

Happy Family Day weekend everyone! In the spirit of Family Day I thought that I would post a photo from my family. Tonight we were to my grandmas for a Family Day dinner and like I have mentioned before my grandma is a photo nut like me. Her walls are filled with photographs of family, some are portraits and others are simply snapshots. Everytime I go over I love to look at all the old photographs and came accross this one. This is more a portrait of myself rather than a self portrait as I did not own a camera back then ;) This is my sister and myself all dressed up for the rodeo. What a pimp hey!

The following two shots are a little more on the creepy side. The one of the hand looks like it could be the back of a hand that has a palm print on it, at least that is the illusion I see because of the way the fingers curl.

This one is creepy to me just because of the crop and expression…

until next time…

Ok so according to the Weather Network it is -23 Celsius but with wind it feels like -30, which is about -22F. Brr. So I was looking through some old photos of a trip to Florida and came accross this surfer walking down the beach on a nice and hot +98F day, that is only a 120 degree difference in temperature a drop in the bucket.

and so the silly shots continue because apparently I am suffering from brain freeze

When Owen was 18 months old we painted some stretched canvas to place his hand and footprints on along with his name. We did the same for Brandon when he was about 18 months, well actually a little over. While we were at it we thought it would be cool to let each of them paint some extra canvas art boards to create their own art that would be hung in either their rooms or somewhere in the house.

Owen was right in there mixing colors and using different stamps, stencils, brushes and um “techniques”. He stuck with cooler colors of purple, blue, and green which I think made his piece come out dark and mysterious.

Brandon also had a lot of fun but was a little more firey in color selection choosing yellow, orange, red, and blue to keep some coolness with all that warmth. I think Brandon’s piece has a lot of drama and passion.

It is very inspiring to sit back and watch children create, learn and explore through the use of paint and art. We take for granted what happens when you move your hand in straight, wavy or circular lines. Things that have become intuitive as adults are new discoveries for children. Of course it is also a lot of fun and a great way to spend a day with your kids. I highly recommend washable paints and a very very large drop cloth ha ha.

I think for 3 years old and 22 months old they both created very expressive pieces of art that I am very proud of. All this work was done completely on their own, except for the base blue color each board had been given and clean up of course.
